Willi: already organised unconventional meetings with Florian called “Harzfahrt”, where they explored the art-science domain; wants to outsource his academic developments in a company, he founded a GmbH as legal representation already.

Related to that we disscussed later:

  • Algorithmic regulation of resources (with regard to the question how well a highly complex system like a society can be regulated at all), money as a means to create an ethical market but the instruments can be abused easily as well (discussion about bitcoins). Example of the system Cybersyn developed during the Allende government in Chile.
  • privatization of knowledge for profit generation, what are the points of view of the group; Update by Willi: Publishing the software under a public license (such as GPL) that is the core technology of the Globosoft GmbH. This is, as now understood, the best way to make a profit inside the GmbH. Since applying the software to practical problems is the source of income for the services provided by Globosoft GmbH this seves the public, scientific and personal interest at the same time. Personally relieved to have closed this question for myself.

Florian about Young Researchers Meeting (London this year): is in support of young researcher meetings where aspiring scientist can develop independent of the supervision of professors; BRCP could offer workshops at such a place; quote about the community: “Ahh, es gibt ja noch andere Leute, die sich solche Gedanken machen.” he likes to have a podium for critical discussion about the approach to science and where alternative viewpoints on specific scientific questions are encouraged as well, especially in terms of teaching and knowledge transfer there is a need for updates of methods and approach; “science networking”, utopia: we have a long list of people and the topics that they are expert of and if we have a problem we just contact the respective expert (Example McKinsey!).

David: raises the point that the current environment is restrictive and only conformist survive

Leo: scientific community needs better means of communication (the rhizome project is about communication)

We all agreed that more diversity should be fostered in science and is central to the scientific process. This can also be a prominent statement for the website useful to give people a fast first impressions about our society that could be shown on the first page (Florian: this statement is too general to express something in my opinion). It is also very valuable that the BRCP is constituted as a non-homogeneous group with people not only from academia. Also advocating a pluralistic scientific culture that allows for contradictions. University education more critical, with abilities and skills instead of just broad knowledge. Free spaces for participation counter moves towards conformity. BRCP allowing to discuss topics that are ignored otherwise.

A good example where gain for society is generated from diversity is computer science with the development of, e.g., Linux.

Discussions outside in the garden. Lateron Michaw appeared (friend of André) also enjoying the discussions.

Finally Slow science manifesto hint by Michaw, discussion goes on nightly…
